FAQ

How Does It Work?

The refinishing process is a remarkable time tested method that was developed specifically for bathtub and tile refinishing. The secret lies in the ability of the refinisher to perform all prep work on the surface to be refinished. If the surface is not meticulously prepared the finish will fail. Any reputable refinisher should be able explain the process. Once all prep is done the compounds and finishes used, will chemically bond themselves into the original surface through a molecular bonding action. The new finish becomes a permanent part of the existing fixture.

Why should I consider bathtub refinishing rather than replacement?

First of all, to replace something you must first tear our the old fixtures. When considering the cost of replacement you must consider tear out costs, and the cost of replacement, labor for installation, not to mention the mess and time it will take. Renovations can be quite inconvenient. Normal costs for replacing a bathtub can range from $4,500 – $10,000 and will usually take one and a half to two weeks or longer to complete. Refinishing generally takes less than one day and will save at least 70% vs. replacement.

What bathroom and kitchen surfaces can be refinished?

Our refinishing system works beautifully on: porcelain bathtubs, sinks, fiberglass shower enclosures, pedestal sinks, ceramic tile, Formica countertops, claw foot tubs, kitchen cabinets, cultured marble counter tops, shower bases, bathroom floors, and a variety fiberglass and acrylic surfaces.

Is the new finish the same as the original finish?

No. The original porcelain or ceramic tile surface is baked at temperatures up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. That is why the surfaces are so hard and scrub resistant. It’s impossible to heat any new coatings at those temperatures without disintegrating the surrounding home. However, the ever evolving chemical industry is continuously discovering new formulas that provide new coatings that are “porcelain and ceramic like” and more environmentally friendly. While not yet as hard as a factory baked porcelain or ceramic finish, these new technologically advanced finishes can take the abuse and through normal use, will give your old bathtub or shower many added years of service.

How do I clean and maintain my refinished fixture?

We recommend the use of non abrasive cleaners. No comet, dutch cleanse,or any abrasive cleaner. Using these cleaners is partly to blame for your tub wearing out in the  first place. It would be like taking sand paper to your car finish.

What if my bathtub or counter top is damaged?

Small chips and cracks can be repaired during the cleaning and preparation stage of refinishing. Your technician will inform you if the chip or cracks cannot be repaired prior to refinishing your fixture.

How long will it last?

A bathtub or sink, refinished can easily last 10 to 15 years or longer with proper care and maintenance.

What is the difference between bathtub refinishing, tub reglazing, or bathtub resurfacing?

No difference, means the same thing.
